Nature of Work:

Responsible for assisting with the planning, implementing and evaluating of City of Orlando events. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Communications and Events Coordinator within the Office of Communications and Neighborhood Relations, located at Orlando City Hall. Work is occasionally performed outside in hot and cold weather conditions. Position occasionally requires late evening or weekend hours, and/or variable scheduling based on the events calendar.

Schedule: Approximately 29 hours per week are anticipated.

Examples of Duties

Primary duties include:

Assisting with the planning, logistics and execution of City events including ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, press events, special events, other ceremonies and signature events
Assisting with the marketing and promotion of citywide and Mayor’s signature and special events and City initiatives, programs and services
Writing media alerts, website copy and other communications and marketing materials
Posting and updating event calendar listings on the City website
Assisting with financial aspects of events such as submitting and requesting invoices, requesting quotes from external vendors, updating event budgets and drafting sponsorship presentations
Assisting with the administrative needs of the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council, including drafting meeting agendas, reserving meeting space, maintaining Council records and attending meetings as a City representative
Represent the City of Orlando with professionalism and superb customer service

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree or higher with major course work in Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, or related field or two years of experience in event coordination, preferably in the general public realm; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including phone and email etiquette preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Powerpoint and Excel preferred. Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced, high-energy environment preferred. Strong sense of ownership; able to take charge and make informed decisions independently preferred.

Required to work late evening or weekend hours and/or variable shifts according to event calendar. Applicants must have reliable transportation to and from City Hall and event sites. Valid Florida driver license required.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
