Quality Assurance & Food Safety Director is tasked with defining and promoting a strong quality culture across the entire organization. The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Director is responsible for managing all QA functions, working with cross-functional leadership to deliver high quality products. Director establishes and maintains a quality system to ensure the company’s facilities, equipment, personnel, methods, processes, and procedures conform to both internal guidelines and regulatory standards.

What You Will Bring

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or similar science field. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
At least 10 years (15 years preferred) in the food industry (corporate and plant experience preferred)
PCQI trained
Experience with FDA and USDA regulatory bodies.
Bakery knowledge or experience a plus.
Knowledge of FDA, USDA regulations and guidelines
Knowledge of Regulatory, Compliance & Documentation Affairs
Knowledgeable in Food Safety Plan, GMP’s, SPC, GFSI and Pest Control.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong management and leadership skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Where You Will Lead

Ensure the safety and legality of food.
Quality Assurance & Food Safety:
Manage the overall Quality Department.
Responsible for the safety & legality of Food
Oversee Food Safety plan, quality and sanitation programs, including implementation, staff training and documentation.
Provide plant food safety and quality leadership to QA department
Provide communication between management and food safety, quality assurance and sanitation team
Assure compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
Develop and implement employee training programs to achieve understanding and compliance with the company GMPs.
Ensure alignment of company Quality systems and KPIs to drive down the cost of quality failures and report the effectiveness of Quality and Food Safety systems to

Corporate Management

Plan, conduct, and monitor testing and inspection of ingredients, packaging and products to ensure finished product quality
Ensure timely and appropriate response to customer complaints – Customer/Consumer contact and formal response, Insurance Filing, and Corrective Action Plan.
Ensure that the existing established manufacturing procedures are adequate and will allow “in-spec” product to be produced and address the gaps with R&D where they exist.

Food Safety:

Update HACCP and food safety plans as requirements/rules and product lines change
Develops policies to define company’s commitment to Quality & Food Safety
Support the business by providing technical assistance on Quality and Food Safety standards & guidelines
Ensure all products transition from R&D with the appropriate information regarding product safety.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ingredient Statements

Implement strategy to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements for Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and FSMA
Work with USDA, FDA and state inspectors; perform environmental and product testing samples as needed
Answer Non-Compliance Records (NRs)
Audit Programs:
Facilitate Food Safety Plan and HACCP (USDA only) reanalysis or revalidation at a frequency specified by the respective regulatory agency.
Maintain document control system for all quality and sanitation related policies and procedures.
Organic program and requirements.
Create, revise, and manage training for food safety and quality programs in partnership with Human Resources.
Maintain compliance to secondary and third-party program requirements (GFSI-SQF scheme, Organic, Kosher, Halal, Customers, etc.)
Oversee Internal Audit program.
Provide strategic and technical guidance to the senior leadership team.
Establish and maintain a close working relationship that helps to develop and sustain the food safety and quality culture with the key operating departments: Manufacturing, Procurement, Sanitation, Warehouse, and Customer Service.
Provide leadership and management support to regional Quality personnel in driving improvement and delivering top Food Safety and Quality Management performance.
Create and foster a team that consistently delivers outstanding results to the business.
Performs other duties assigned as required.


Hires and trains new employees within their area of responsibility.
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Internal Auditor

What You Will Experience

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high and will include, but not be limited to, production machinery, computers, printers, telephones, and normal communication. Hearing protection will be required for all in plant activities.
Must be willing to work under various temperatures ranging from typical 45 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
