Description
The Sr. Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company’s growth and profitability goals. This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with senior management and other stakeholders. The Sr. Director has oversight of the Corporate Controller as well as an accounting team of 3 individuals at varying levels of experience. This role will also partner with the FP&A team, where applicable and will report to the CFO of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Oversee accounting compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS).
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Create detailed and comprehensive financial reports with the accounting software (Great Plains) to support management in making informed business decisions. Facilitate implementation of new systems and major modifications of existing systems to reduce downtime
Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency in our New Markets Tax Credit procedures.
Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with other departments.
Coordinate and manage annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
Manage relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and other external partners.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of financial and legal best practices and requirements with a proven ability to provide sound and ethical financial counsel to executive leadership.
Thorough understanding of and personal involvement with systems and methodologies of finance and administration.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Strong Excel knowledge and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA/MBA preferred.
At least ten years of experience in the financial function of a company required.
Extensive knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
Proven experience in managing financial audits and working with external auditors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has supervisory responsibilities including supervision of subordinate supervisors.
