We are seeking an individual for a Regular position as a Apprentice Power Plant in the Stanton-Operations Division.
Make rounds to monitor plant equipment, make adjustments to equipment as needed or instructed, and report findings to Control Center I Operator, Watch Engineer (Shift Supervisor), and Plant Management.
Study and learn the safe and efficient operation of Power Plant Systems. Accurately follow instructions when running these systems.
Perform equipment per-operational checks, make hourly rounds, and monitor system operations within established parameters at the Stanton Energy Center in the areas of Main Power Plant, Flue Gas Scrubber, the Brine Plant, and Material Handling.
Enter Trouble Reports on all equipment in the assigned work areas using computer based reporting system.
Perform light preventive maintenance when required.
Assist in troubleshooting operational problems.
Complete computer based training modules on Power Plant Systems.
Employee must exercise initiative, judgment, and knowledge relating to mechanical work performance.
If assigned in the Material Handling area, assist with Coal Train unloading, assist with Heavy Equipment operation.
Perform other duties directed by Supervisor.
Assist in all areas of plant for operational needs.
Six (6) months is industrial or technical related work experience.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills. Able to communicate on plant paging system and radios.
Driver’s License must meet OUC Policy standard
Technical assessment will be given for this position. Edison Electric Institute POSS (Plant Operator Selection System) test will be administered to candidates. TTTL: Test Taking Tips
Required to work a rotating shift that includes working nights, weekends, and holidays and a willingness to work extended hours when required.
Working knowledge of general industrial and Power Plant Safety Practices
Ability to communicate in an understandable voice with all levels of plant personnel both verbally, on in-plant radios, and plant paging systems.
Physically able to negotiate inclines and stairs.
Physically able to open and close valves requiring 50 pounds of force.

Must be physically able to wear a respirator when required.
Specific physical requirements as an Emergency Response Team member are as follows:
Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
Must be physically capable of wearing firefighter’s turnout gear.
Must be physically capable of wearing and using a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing approximately 30 pounds.
Must be physically capable of wearing a negative pressure respirator
Must be physically capable of pulling a fire hose, using firefighting tools such as pikes, forcible entry tools, hose clamps, etc., must be physically capable of climbing numerous flights of stairs while using the tools and wearing the firefighter’s personal protective equipment mentioned above (SCBA and turnout gear).
Due to the nature of emergency operations the employee will be required to remain clean shaven at all times while at work to allow immediate use of SCBA or other respiratory equipment.

Starting Rate of Pay: H06 Hourly $22.12 - 22.12
