The Role

The Senior Database Administrator will define, implement, and drive best practices for database quality and engineering principals to allow consistent quality to meet ministry needs. This role will work closely with our scrum teams to implement test objectives ensuring sustainable product quality throughout our SDLC.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Provide leadership in defining and establishing best practices in managing and maintaining the ministry databases
Improve the nightly processes that interact with our databases
Day to day database administration using SQL Server and other database management systems
Monitor database efficiency, being proactive to work with various areas of IT to correct issues or implement improvements
Monitor nightly ETL jobs and stored procedures, serving on a rotation for 24x7 support
Database design, stored procedure and trigger development
Backups and Recovery
Troubleshooting/diagnostic analysis
Performance Tuning
Adhere to change management procedures established by the organization
Write and optimize SQL queries and assist with code/scripting as needed
Evaluate and monitor database security configuration & needs, adhering to standards/policies set forth by the organization
Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
Database development as needed

Essential Skills & Abilities

Development and diagnosis of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) deployment, configuration and administration
Understanding of OS configuration including RAID configuration to optimize SQL Server performance
DevOps experience with source control and CI/CD tools such as RedGate SQL Change Automation
Expertise in SQL Server 2012 and newer versions
SQL Server Clustering
Data Warehousing
SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
Experience with Postgres, No SQL and other databases
Good verbal and written communication skills
Process Improvement skills – eager to learn the “why” behind processes, always looking to find ways to improve them from a technical standpoint
Strong analytical skills – ability to analyze data and information systems to isolate and solve technical problems independently
Planning and Organizing – ability to work effectively without supervision

Education and/or Experience

BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of database administration, or 10+ years equivalent experience.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification or interest in obtaining certification (huge plus)
Experience with Agile and Scrum processes and/or complex IT projects a plus
Knowledge of data protection operations and legislation (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA)
Experience in a healthcare-related field or financial field a plus
