Heart to Heart Walkie-Talkie Ambassadors

Heart to Heart Walkie-Talkie program is a service provided by SRA that connects older adults who live alone, are homebound, or are self-isolating due to COVID 19 with caring and compassionate Americorps members. The participant will receive calls from members to have a friendly conversation about their health and wellbeing, needs and referral to select resources. This will enable our seniors to reduce the harmful effects of isolation and loneliness.
Members will call the 80 - 100 seniors per week and have generalized care conversation.
Members engage elders in memory exercises which engage their mind.
Members develop online individual or group activities and games for seniors
Members through engagement identify seniors' needs and point them to relevant resources.
Attend training events in order to comply with the Outreach and Targeting Plans.
MEMBER TERM OF SERVICE:
This is a half time AmeriCorps national direct service position. To fulfill this position, the member:
Commits to completing a minimum of 1200 service hours (three quarter time) during the service year (November 1st, 2021 – July 31st, 2022). At least 80% of member time will be spent doing direct service, and 20% can be spent in training.
Understands that in order to successfully complete the term of service (as defined by the Program and consistent with regulations of AmeriCorps and to be eligible for the education award, he/she must:
Serve a minimum of 1200 hours full time
Satisfactorily completes Pre-Service Orientation (PSO)
Satisfactorily completes service assignments as defined in the member position description and determined by the NHC Program Site.
ORIENTATION AND TRAINING:
Members will receive national service and SRA organizational orientation as well as participate in required AmeriCorps Member training. Orientation will cover SRA and AmeriCorps Policies and Procedures, prohibited activities in detail (including HIPAA, non-displacement and non-duplication, the Hatch Act, etc.), and pertinent community partner and site information. Training will include but not limited to: American Red Cross First Aid and CPR; Diversity Awareness and Appreciation; Disability Awareness & Etiquette; and Introduction to Disaster Preparedness. Additional training will include Life after AmeriCorps and SRA senior wellness topics. Ongoing required education, training and service projects will be scheduled throughout the service term.
MEMBER BENEFITS: The member in this position will receive from the SRA program the following benefits:
Living Allowance in the amount of $694.40 paid biweekly during the service year term.
a. The living allowance is taxable and taxes will be deducted directly from the living allowance.
b. The living allowance is not a wage. It is intended to provide for expenses a member incurs while actively serving and is not linked to the number of hours a member serves. A member who completes his/her term of service early or will receive the portion of the living allowance that would be provided for that period of participation under the program’s living allowance distribution policy (a member who leaves in the first week (or first ½) of a pay period receives ½ a stipend; a member who leaves early in the second week (or second ½) of a pay period receives a full stipend). Members who end their service early will not be eligible for the remaining amount of their living allowance, either in “lump sum” or incremental payments. A member may not receive a living allowance if they are suspended by the program.
Education Award. Upon successful completion of the member’s term of service, the member may be eligible to receive an education award from the National Service Trust. For successful completion of a three quarter term of service (1200 hours), the member will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $3172.50. The member understands that he/she may not receive more than the amount equal to the total value of two education awards for full-time service from the National Service Trust, regardless of the stream of service in which the member serves.
2. Loan Forbearance Interest: If the member has received forbearance on a qualified student loan during the term of service, and the member successfully completes the term of service, the National Service Trust will repay a portion or all of the interest that accrued on the loan during the term of service. After a member is enrolled in e-grants by the Program Director, they may use the CNCS web-based system to apply for loan forbearance. Senior Resource Alliance is not responsible for following through with private lenders.
3. Professional Development: Grow personally and professionally- learn and grow while giving back to the community. Individuals who serve with AmeriCorps build new skill sets that they can take with them wherever they go.
SERVICE ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent generally serves in an office environment or virtual office (if required and/or allowed on a case by case basis), uses computers, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Sedentary work primarily involves sitting and standing. Required to use repetitive hand motion, talk, handle, reach, hear, bend or lift up to 20 pounds. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
