Job Description

The Communications Language Translator (CLT) will be responsible for providing translation of both Spanish and English emergency and non-emergency calls over the phone. The CLT will receive instruction in English from a 911 Operator and will promptly restate the question or instruction in Spanish to the caller. The CLT will provide prompt feedback in English to the 911 Operator. In addition, the CLT will process non-emergency and administrative calls for service. The employee will perform other assigned duties. See Job Description in Human Resources for further duties and responsibilities.

Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED Diploma

Recognized Translation Certification Preferred or obtained within 6 months of employment

Required to work any hours or duties as needed, which includes shift work, holidays, and weekends.

Must be able to work 12-hour shifts; day shift 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and night shift 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with a four-month rotation.

Must be able to work in an internal environment for an extended period.

Must be able to work at a computer station for an extended period.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be able to fluently speak, read, write and translate from English and Spanish/Spanish to English.

Must be able to type 30 WPM at 90% accuracy.

Must have good interpersonal communication and phone skills.

Must have good written and verbal communications skills.

Must be able to express/convey questions, instructions and information orally in a clear manner.

Must be able to simultaneously perform multiple communications tasks to standard under both stressful and non-stressful conditions

Must have a good team-building skills.
