The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for an Social Services Program Manager for the Orlando Area Command, located in Orlando, FL.
Manages, supervises, and participates in the day-to-day activities of residential services, non-residential advocacy and counseling activities, primary prevention activities, and supervised visitation and monitored exchange services, to include coordination of staff activities and services to participants.
Ensures that operations run smoothly and in compliance with established procedures. Manages and supervises requests for assistance from staff regarding incidents, crises, or other emergent issues 24 hours per day. Supervises program staff responsible for providing direct services; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures for conducting work; monitors work in process and upon completion for compliance with established program policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and makes salary and hiring/firing recommendations.
Performs regular quality assurance activities. Maintains awareness of local, state, and federal regulations governing program operations and ensures compliance to the same including health, safety, and licensing regulations. Coordinates a Volunteer Program; solicits, recruits, trains, and places volunteers. Plans, coordinates, and/or facilitates group counseling and educational programs. Provides counseling to participants as needed. Prepares statistical reports on a regular basis. Builds and maintains effective working relationships with community agencies to maintain awareness of resources and make appropriate referrals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to drive a vehicle.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service program development and administration.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing programs. Successful completion of Safe from Harm training within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention counseling.
Knowledge of family dynamics and issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community. Knowledge of effective communication and motivational practices. Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel. Ability to perform public speaking. Ability to develop, implement and enforce program policies and procedures. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during a crisis. Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors. Ability to converse with participants to obtain pertinent information. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete case notes and participant records. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and timelines. Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with participants and community agencies.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, AND Four years progressively responsible experience performing social services work with at least one year in a supervisory capacity OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Approved background check required. Valid state Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to perform public speaking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
