Overview

The Orange County Corrections, Inmate Administration Division is seeking highly qualified individuals for Intake & Release Specialist positions. This Division is comprised of several units that include Classification Services, Inmate Affairs, Inmate Records Management and Pretrial Services. These Units perform a variety of support functions inside the Orange County Jail facility.

The Intake & Release Specialist are responsible for processing and maintaining a variety of documents related to the intake, confinement and release of inmates who are incarcerated in the Orange County Correctional Department. Responsibilities include updating all information that is received from the court and other criminal justice agencies in the computer via the inmate management system; obtaining criminal history/warrant information and processing inmates for release from the corrections facility. This position requires a uniform, which is provided by Orange County Corrections.

Once final candidates are selected and contingent job offer is extended, the required pre-employment background screening steps may take up to 8 weeks to complete before an employment start date is scheduled. Most vacancies are currently on the C Shift - 10:30pm to 6:48 am, work days are seven days per week with rotating days off.

Representative Duties

  • Receives and notarizes incoming law enforcement arrest affidavits and other documents related to the intake of an inmate into the Orange County Correctional Facility.
  • Processes a variety of documents required for the release of inmates and ensures inmates are released in accordance with those documents.
  • Reviews arrest paperwork and court documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Disseminates inmate information to various parts of the criminal justice system.
  • Communicates information to the public, court, and various agencies to confirm information and assist in the resolution of issues regarding inmate case status and court documentation.
  • Enters and updates inmate information in the automated corrections Inmate Management System.
  • Provides information to various agencies via Teletype.
  • Obtains and reviews inmate criminal history information using Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Specific Duties Based on Area or Unit of Assignment

Inmate Records Management:

  • Process the intake and release of inmates
  • Takes booking photos during intake process
  • Receives, verifies and documents all cash bonds, surety bonds and purge payments
  • Schedules inmates to attend First Appearance Court.
  • Communicates with Law Enforcement agencies via Teletype
  • Assist the public by answering questions and providing requested updates on inmate release statuses.

Pretrial Services:

  • Works with the personnel from the Clerk of Court, Public Defender, State Attorney and the Judiciary to ensure court documents are properly written and modified as needed to meet custody and release requirements.
  • Receives and processes a variety of court orders from the Downtown courthouse and the First Appearance courtrooms.
  • Reviews crystal reports to identify No Information/No Bill case closures.
  • Perform qualify control of court orders processed by the team.
  • Ensures inmates are processed for release in accordance with court ordered conditions.

Classification:

  • Processes initial receipt, review and data entry of sentencing orders.
  • Performs preliminary calculations of release dates. Conducts release authorization for inmates sentenced to short length sentences; assigns sentence calculation for longer length sentences to certified staff.
  • Conducts criminal history inquiries to identify which inmates qualify for program placements.
  • Scans various documents to include PREA assessments and privileged mail receipts.

  • Ability to follow complex coding instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution and three years of data entry or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Florida Crime Information Center/ National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) certification within three months of employment. Required to possess and maintain Florida Notary Public certification within three months of employment.

Vacancies are on all shifts. Work days are seven days per week with rotating with rotating days off (40hr work week).

  • A Shift – 6:30am to 2:48pm
  • B Shift – 2:30pm to 10:48pm
  • C Shift - 10:30pm to 6:48 am

The work schedule for this position is nights, weekends and holidays. Pre-Trial Services and Inmate Records Departments are 24/7 operations. Intake & Release Specialist wear uniforms provided by Orange County Corrections. Selected candidates must comply with all Corrections dress code standards, including body ornamentation, including tattoos, which must be covered by the uniform, and/or clothing. Please note that the work location for this position is within the secure confines of the jail and there are strict guidelines regarding use of personal electronic device within the facility.
