Accounting Clerk II
The Salvation Army, a non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for an Accounting Clerk II in Administration at the Orlando Metropolitan Area Command in Orlando, Florida.
Performs advanced and complex clerical accounting/financial functions under limited supervision including record keeping and reporting for a multitude of accounts; sets-up account payable accounts and processes all check requests in compliance with tight deadlines, budget constraints and established guidelines; serves as liaison to the divisions or outside contacts on a daily basis in order to provide timely information regarding the status of accounts and check requests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the practices and procedures of advanced accounting and/or bookkeeping work. Knowledge of project management skills necessary to track activity of a multitude of accounts and ensure compliance with approved guidelines and deadlines for the same. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours. Work some evenings, weekends as directed that are different from normally scheduled work hours, in case of emergencies, disasters, special events, coverage of shortages in staff, etc. Ability to monitor account activity and ensure compliance with a multitude of guidelines and budget constraints. Ability to review check requests and supporting documents in order to determine compliance with established guidelines. Ability to research account discrepancies and/or inquiries and provide accurate and complete information. Ability to perform complex account reconciliations in order to ensure that accounts balance. Ability to work with various accounting computer software products as necessary. Ability to process financial documents quickly and with independent thought in order to meet tight deadlines. Ability to accurately and completely communicate the status of accounts to the divisions by telephone or mail in a courteous and timely manner.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D., and five years experience performing progressively responsible accounting and/or bookkeeping work with limited supervision preferably within The Salvation Army, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Applicant may be tested to ascertain qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State driver’s license may be required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to type and keypunch data into a computer. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, typewriter, computer, and adding machine. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Works is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
