JOB SUMMARY

Performs maintenance and repairs on agency vehicles. #oj

Minimum Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
No illegal drug usage within the past two years, all other usage will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Ability to conduct routine maintenance on vehicles.
Ability to perform road calls on agency vehicles.
Ability to repair inoperable or damaged vehicles.
Ability to evaluate vehicles, diagnose driver’s concerns, and determine services or repairs needed.
Ability to perform general clerical duties to include typing, maintaining daily vehicle logs, and documenting monthly vehicle consumptions.
Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
Must have basic working knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information to others.

Requirements
Auto Technician (Mechanic):

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
One (1) year related experience and/or training

Starting Salary: $35,110/yr - $56,700/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

Auto Technician I (Mechanic I):

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must have National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification for Brakes, Heating & Air Conditioning
Two (2) years related experience and/or training

Starting Salary: $36,878/yr - $59,550/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

Auto Technician II (Mechanic II):

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must have National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification for Brakes, Heating & Air Conditioning, Electrical/Electronic Systems, and one additional certification
Two (2) years related experience and/or training

Starting Salary: $38,729/yr - $62,545/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

Auto Technician III (Mechanic III):

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must have National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification for Brakes, Heating & Air Conditioning, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Suspension & Steering, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Automatic Transmission
Two (2) years related experience and/or training

Starting Salary: $42,723/yr - $68,972/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, smell, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Depending on assignment the employee may be required to work evening, midnight and/or weekend shifts. Shift times may vary.
