Job Description

Position: Fatherhood Mentor
Department: Outpatient

DEFINITION

The Fatherhood Mentor is responsible for providing

Function: Focusing on the goal of enhancing and improving fathering outcomes for families, Fatherhood Mentors are role models who provide guidance based on a combination of training and personal first-hand experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop a trusting relationship with assigned parents.
2. Regular contact and visits with parents.
3. Support parents in developing positive parenting skills.
4. Support parents with treatment services and community resources as needed.
5. Support parents in making positive choices.
6. Empower parents to advocate for themselves and their family.
7. Attend court and /or meetings as support when requested by parents.
8. Attend regular conferences with program supervisor.
9. Attend scheduled mentor support group meetings.
10. Document contacts and visits with parents.
11. Attend all trainings as required.
12. Maintain confidential information.
13. Facilitate training as required.
14. Participate in advisory committees as required.
15. Give presentations to various community groups.
16. Models and encourages direct, professional communication.
17. May be required to drive your personal vehicle for meetings, appointments, conferences, errands, etc.
18. Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements
1. Experience and knowledge of Child Welfare system.
2. A minimum of two years clean and sober, if addiction was a presenting issue.
3. High school diploma or GED, OR high school level writing and reading skills.

Environmental Conditions
The Fatherhood Mentor may find their office to be busy with both scheduled and unscheduled clients. The Counselor II must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations. The Counselor II must adhere to confidentiality standards and able to quickly secure Protected Health Information if interrupted. The Counselor II will also be invited to other environments that are stressful. Response to crisis situations can be unpredictable, emotional and threatening. The Counselor II must also be prepared to manage their own stress.

Sensory Demands
The Fatherhood Mentor will be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves. The Counselor II may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with arms; drive; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands
The Fatherhood Mentor must monitor their own time and stress levels to ensure that they are able to effectively assist clients. The Counselor II may find that they are continually interrupted, and may have to quickly assess situations to respond appropriately. The workload may be unpredictable and difficult to manage at times. The Fatherhood Mentor may be placed in a situation where his/her own life may be threatened as well as life-threatening situations for others such as instances of attempted suicide.

Must pass a required level 2 background screening every five (5) years.
Must maintain a Valid Florida Driver’s License and personal automobile insurance.

Complete twenty (20) hours of state mandated training requirements detailed in the Florida Administrative Code 65D-30 each fiscal year.
