Job Summary

The Instructional Designer is responsible for collaborating with teams across the College to design, review, and deliver high-quality, innovative learning opportunities for LSSC employees. This position must have a strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, educational technologies and must stay current with ever-changing instructional design technologies. The Instructional Designer will work alongside subject matter experts and other stakeholders to identify learning needs, develop learning goals and objectives, and design and deliver educational material and programs.
In addition, this position will serve as a learning experience consultant who can advise subject matter experts and other stakeholders across the organization on best practices in designing high-quality, impactful learning experiences.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating and Celebrating.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop engaging and effective learning experiences to include courses, workshops, programs, webinars, virtual learning, and other learning products or programs, ensuring both quality and excellence.
Meet and collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and other third parties to review user goals and objectives and to provide expertise by identifying needs, impact, resources needed, application of the learning management system, and related educational technology.
Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to design, develop, write, edit, assess, and evaluate courses, course materials, workbooks, facilitator guides, activities, reference tools, and microlearning modules in collaboration with subject matter experts.
Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of educational programs through assessments and feedback mechanisms.
Provide advice on pedagogical and instructional design and practical guidance on teaching and learning strategies and innovations.
Maintain department training and resource shells and Sharepoint site.
Analyze and research learning and development industry standards to stay current and align with best practices and strategies.
Assist faculty with course design, course quality assurance, and course ADA compliance.
Facilitate and present training during faculty and staff workshops, webinars and new hire experiences.
Coordinate and stay current with training on technology for faculty and staff.
Collaborate with POD team to provide onboard training for adjuncts and faculty as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficiency in instructional design principles and adult learning theory, including methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, and Kirkpatrick’s Levels of Evaluation.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Experience with advanced video and photo editing tools as well as graphic design tools.
Excellent skills in problem-solving, interpersonal communication, writing/editing, planning, organization, time management, productivity, efficiency, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, requiring little supervision
Demonstrated high energy, enthusiastic, motivational training style.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience developing creative and engaging training materials in a variety of formats and media.
Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous learning.
Experience using and/or developing with some, if not all, of the following applications: Canvas LMS, Kaltura, Canva, YouTube, Web Conferencing tools, Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, SWAY).
Demonstrated ability in creation and delivery of a variety of training approaches (in-person, online—synchronous and asynchronous).

Minimum Qualifications & Education

Bachelor degree in Education or Instructional Design or related field required.
3-5 years of teaching or presentation experience required
K-12 or higher education teaching experience preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience designing course materials and programs preferred.
Professional certifications in related areas preferred.
