Job Seeker Tips

Central Florida Employment Connections (CFEC) job fairs bring multiple employers together in one place, giving you an opportunity to meet hiring representatives and learn about available opportunities. Prepare in advance so you can make the most of the event.

  • Dress appropriately — Wear business-casual attire at a minimum. Dressing for the job fair makes a positive impression.

  • Manage your time — Review the employers expected to attend and prioritize the companies you want to meet.

  • Speak with employers — Do more than hand over your résumé. Ask thoughtful questions about available opportunities and share relevant information about yourself.

  • Collect business cards — Follow up after the job fair by email or phone to reaffirm your interest or let representatives know you completed an online application.

Before the event or when you arrive, identify the companies you want to research. Stay focused rather than spending too much time at the busiest booth or the one with the most eye-catching display. Approach representatives confidently, prepare your elevator speech, bring copies of your résumé, and ask about the next steps in the process.

Professional attire is generally expected at job fairs. In general, dress as you would for an interview—at least one level above what you typically wear to work.

After the Job Fair

  • Follow up: Send a brief thank-you email to employers you spoke with.

  • Complete applications: If you haven't already applied, visit the employer's website and submit your application.

  • Stay connected: Reference your conversation when following up and express your continued interest.

A Final Tip

Treat a job fair like a series of mini-interviews. Every conversation is an opportunity to make a positive impression. Be prepared, professional, approachable, and enthusiastic about your next career opportunity.

Remember: Your goal isn't just to collect business cards or résumés—it's to make meaningful connections that can move your job search forward.
