Overview
An Accountant Supervisor is a responsible supervisory and administrative position involving daily oversight of accounting staff, as well as performance of several major accounting functions. An Accountant Supervisor provides daily oversight of professional accounting staff as assigned, and is responsible for administering a complex accounting program in accordance with established policies and procedures in an on-line automated environment.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager.
Representative Duties

Trains and supervises assigned professional accounting staff.
Evaluates performance of subordinates for annual review and merit increase.
Reviews trial balances, cash and investment reports, and bank reconciliations.
Reviews debt service payment requirements for cash availability and budget appropriations.
Maintains chart of accounts in accordance with guidelines promulgated by the State Comptroller's Office.
Prepares and/or supervises preparation of financial statements, reports and fiscal analyses and reconciliations.
Develops and revises accounting procedures as assigned.
Analyzes and recommends budget amendments and transfers as required.
Works with internal and external auditors in assigned areas of responsibility.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Bachelors degree with major course work in accounting or business administration.
Licensed Florida Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Three years experience in accounting.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND/OR SKILLS
Possess and maintain reliable work habits.
Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to use a computer terminal for data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
Familiarity with financial documents, their purpose and application.
Ability to effectively plan, organize, direct and review the work of subordinates.
Ability to function either independently or within a team, depending upon the work assignment/project.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with peers, managers, and the public, on both individual and group levels.
Ability to analyze problems with detail and accuracy, keep complex records, assemble and organize data, and prepare reports from such data.
Working knowledge of accepted principles and practices of accounting, including application in actual work and review of same.
Preferences
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
One of the three years experience in local or state government accounting.
One of the three years experience as a supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND/OR SKILLS
Ability to adjust readily to changes in procedures, practices, and/or assignments.
Familiarity with Orange County Government organization.
Notes

Salary
Starting Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000.
