YOUR SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides basic social services and

intensive breastfeeding education to WIC participants in various locations throughout Orange County. The person in this position will serve as a lead position

in the Breastfeeding Department to include performing basic supervisory duties, monitor employee workloads, deadlines and time utilization

in the absence of the Breastfeeding Manager and will have authorized “need to know” access to confidential

WIC client records and the WIC database. Assignment of duty station, hours and days worked may vary based on agency/site needs.

The position requires travel within Orange County, therefore, a valid State of Florida driver’s license are required.

Provides intensive breastfeeding support services for Orange County Health Department WIC and Nutrition program through individual support and group classes, and telephone contacts.

Maintains and updates client files and provides follow-up service on all referrals received with proper documentation.

Provides counseling on nipple shields, shells, electric pumps, etc., that are outside of the grant-funded breastfeeding peer counselor scope of practice.

In the absence of the Breastfeeding Manager, will have delegated authority to supervise and monitor employee workloads, deadlines and time utilization.

Effectively communicates with and motivates employees and volunteer peer counselors to attain maximum use of time and resources, ensure accuracy and integrity of work products.

Completes forms and paperwork in hard copy and electronically as required. Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.

Attends breastfeeding training classes, regular in-service trainings and participates in appropriate WIC Program and Health Department meetings and attends conferences and workshops as assigned.

Plans, conducts, and evaluates in-service education and staff development sessions on breastfeeding for WIC and Health Department staff, and as assigned to community groups and organizations.  

Participate in the Big Latch On, World Breastfeeding, and Black Breastfeeding Week planning activities annually.

Manage the breastfeeding warmline. Document breastfeeding contacts in the FL Wise WIC System in accordance with department policy.  Documentation is accurate for all contacts made with WIC clients.

Provides materials to individuals and/or families about WIC Services, Walk-In Breastfeeding Clinic and Breastfeeding Support Group meetings virtual and in-person.

Assists in the maintenance of tracking systems of WIC participants, breast pump equipment and breastfeeding data. Records and reports accurate data on all client contacts to Breastfeeding Manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of breast pumping techniques and procedures. Ability to counsel clients with a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Ability to supervise people, to determine work priorities, plan and organize program activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

Effective listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to demonstrate team work.

Ability to develop education/training plans and supporting materials. Ability to be self-motivated. Ability to demonstrate flexibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

A current IBCLC certification.
2 years of verifiable experience providing intensive breastfeeding support services.
6 months of personal breastfeeding experience
.Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an
emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties
including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.
Speak, read and write Spanish or Creole.(Preferred)
