Orange County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity. The Health Services Division for Corrections is seeking a motivated, high energy, self-starter to serve in the role of Assistant Medical Director - Psychiatry at Orange County, Florida Corrections Division at the Correctional Facility. This position is responsible for assuring quality psychiatric care is provided to the inmates at Orange County Corrections. The incumbent will provide psychiatric evaluations and treatments to patients. Supervise and manage the professional psychiatry staff at Orange County Corrections Health Service and will also be responsible for assisting the Medical Director in all administrative functions.

Representative Duties

Clinical Leadership:

Supervises the professional psychiatry staff at Orange County Corrections Health Services including the Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, psychologists, nurses, and social workers, to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans. The chosen candidate will stay abreast of current research, trends, and best practices in psychiatry to ensure high-quality patient care.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to psychiatric services. Oversee the scheduling and coordination of psychiatric services to ensure efficient and effective patient care.

Supervision and Training:

Provide supervision, guidance, and mentorship to psychiatric staff i.e. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, ARNP’s and other healthcare professionals. Facilitate training programs and continuing education for staff to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge. Oversight of protocols, daily psychiatric encounters, use of formulary, and medical record reviews.

Leadership and Decision-Making:

Assist the Medical Director in making decisions related to clinical policies and procedures, resource allocation, and program development. Contribute to strategic planning and development of psychiatric services within the department.

Quality Assurance and Risk Management:

Monitor and evaluate the quality of psychiatric services through regular review of clinical documentation and treatment outcomes. Implement measures to address any identified areas of improvement. Will work to minimize risks associated with psychiatric care, including addressing patient safety concerns and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Performs other duties of comparable level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of medicine and possess a current license to practice psychiatry in the State of Florida as required by the State of Florida Department of Health.

Completed residency training in Psychiatry from an ACGME approved training Board. Board eligibility or Board Certification in Psychiatry through an ABMS approved Board.

Three years’ experience in the practice of Psychiatry.
