Overview

The Senior Systems Administrator maintains and operates the Comptrollers computer systems.

Work involves installing, supporting, and maintaining software on servers, computer systems, and responding to service outages and problems. The Senior Systems Administrator demonstrates a blend of technical skills, training, and responsibility. They may perform light scripting or programming duties, project management, training or serve as consultant for computer problems beyond the knowledge of Help Desk staff. This position reports directly to the IT Support Supervisor.

Representative Duties

Manages and maintains the Comptroller’s Computer Systems.

Administers server environment. Configures, maintains, patches, troubleshoots, and repairs servers as necessary to ensure data accessibility and functionality.
Manages data backup and restoration to ensure data integrity and reliability.
Maintains security by managing user IDs, passwords, and e-mail accounts.
Plans and schedules upgrades, enhancements, and installation of computer systems hardware and software.

Maintains a level of technical knowledge necessary to interface with other county computer networks.
Assists in administration of the storage area network.

Administers computer workstation and management procedures, applications, and methods.
Maintains test network for testing of applications, updates, security settings, etc.
Maintains user license database and prevents the use of unlicensed software.
Protects computer systems/servers and network data by ensuring that the most appropriate anti-virus software and security patches are applied.

Maintains a level of technical knowledge necessary to install and troubleshoot hardware and software components.
Interfaces with hardware and software vendors for support.
Makes use of technical resources to research problems, obtain upgrades and fixes, and monitor technical trends.
Assists the IT Manager in strategic planning activities. Determines future hardware and software needs and makes associated recommendations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Two years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND/OR SKILLS

In-depth knowledge of Windows-based applications, including the ability to interpret and resolve system errors.
Experience with the following required: Networking, Server Hardware, Server Operating Systems, Storage, Virtualization, Server Backup and Recovery, VPN Connectivity, Workstations, Windows Server OS, Non-Windows Server OS (Linux), and Active Directory.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, e-mail, and other computer applications.
Ability to implement, install, test, and troubleshoot application software.
Ability to work flexible hours, depending upon division’s needs.
Possess and maintain reliable work habits.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Ability to adjust readily to changes in procedures, practices, and/or assignments.
Ability to effectively plan, organize, prioritize and complete work assignments/projects.
Ability to function either independently or within a team, depending upon the work assignment/project.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with peers, managers, and the public, on both individual and group levels.
Ability to lift and move 20-pound cartons.
Ability to analyze problems with detail and accuracy, keep complex records, assemble and organize data, and prepare reports from such data.

Preferences

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Completion of course work in VMware, Microsoft Systems Management, and/or Networking.
Three additional years of system administrator experience.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND/OR SKILLS

Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, SQL and Exchange.
Knowledge of Cloud Administration (Azure, O365, AWS).
Familiarity with Orange County Government organization.

Salary
Starting Salary Range: $28.30 – $37.14 per hour. Commensurate with experience.
